Silver and Gold

Will you walk with me
Silver and gold gathering
The pavement will end
And I’ll want you with me then

Eulogy

Gather round my friends
It is time to say farewell to the local wood-cutting man
He served us well and taught our children how to whistle
He made his living throwing billets in a barking drum
Here with us now are his loving wife and family
Who remember him as loyal and stubborn and doting
He loved to dance and eat his dinner at the table
And he could listen with the patience of an oxen
When a tree falls we may not be there to hear it
But in the silence we recall the man who cleared it

Bloom
04:04
|

I won't plant lilies for you
'Cause they'd poison my crops
But I'll plant sugar peas if you don't abandon me
Just peas in a pod
I read a letter from you
And neglected my tea
Now I've got bitter leaves and my throat is begging please
Stop drinking alone
Now that the peas have grown tall
And they don't reach the land of giants
Instead they grow apart
Each carrying a broken heart
And they bloom

Ms. Clavel
03:32
|

Ms. Clavel doesn’t live there anymore
In that house, you know the one
With the wrought iron door
They tore down the ivy
Repainted the walls
No more to hear little girls’ padded footsteps down the halls
That’s all there is, there isn’t anymore
The Spanish ambassador’s son is on his own again
With no one to teach him the good
Reform the bad hat within
In place of the home that dear Madeline bewitched
A multimillion-dollar house for the idle rich
That’s all there is, there isn’t anymore
We’re running fast
On streets with cracks in ‘em
We’re running faster
To fill them in with plaster
We’re running so fast
We turn a blind eye to the fate of our path
We’re running fast
Faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster
Towards disaster
Something’s not right
Something’s quite wrong
When we destroy the greenery to appease the throngs
And all that is left is a plaster-cast bone
That just isn’t strong enough to call a home
That’s all there is, there isn’t anymore
Ms. Clavel doesn’t live there anymore

I had a dream you were still here
But as I recount it the words disappear
I kept my eyes closed to stay in the dream
We were dancing, I breathed you in
It was my turn
Where did you go?
I love you so
I hope you know
I loved you hair and we were both scared
Mourning the fact we were caught unprepared
You wearing lipstick of confident hue
Me trying to recall your perfume
It was my turn
Where did you go?
I love you so
I hope you know
I open my eyes renter the world
Grateful to dreamland for one final whirl
I’ve got a handful of sunflower seeds
I’ll plant a garden where we can convene
I’ll plant a garden

I look at the garden
And watch the sun set
And I'm reminded
Of how hard it gets
When the day's over
And there's nothing to do
'Cause I used to spend evenings with you
If I look closely
I see a cloud
It looks like a sheep to me
Or maybe a crown
It's hard to see clearly
Now that you're gone
I close the curtains and turn the light on
Why are you leaving
I was just sleeping
You saw an ending
I'm just beginning again
And when I wake
To wax and wane
I am the moon
In every phase
Though it may look like
I've gone away
I'm like the clouds
I have just changed
I draw back the curtains
A pain in my chest
And I pray to someone
That I don't forget
All that you told me
When the day breaks
'Cause knowing you're there lessens the ache
When the night's dark
You're still with me

Muscle to Bone
03:00
|
|||
I heard that you went to the doctor to get x-rays of your chest
‘Cus you were having pains you could not explain away with lack of sleep or stress
But it wasn’t in your bones and so the doctor probed is this a pain you’be ever known
And you recalled a pain from throwing lots of clay, tying knots, and tugging chains
And the doctor went outside performed an MRI when they came back they recited
You’ve got tendonitis of the heart
From loving everyone so hard
Maybe you should move back home
Reconnect muscle to bone
And the doctor warned you
You might infect the ones you love
You’ve got tendonitis of the heart
From loving everyone so hard
Maybe you should move back home
Reconnect muscle to bone
And we’ve got tendonitis of the heart
From loving one another so much when we are apart (From loving one another so hard)
Maybe we should all just move back home (Maybe we should move back home)
Reconnect muscle to bone
Reconnect muscle to bone

Brittany, please come back from the woods
She can’t love you like she should
Granite coast welcomes you home
When you left, we were excavated
Bored and hollowed
Mythic stones turned to roads
Je m’aligne ver toi
Cette ancienne cour
Cette tombe
Lignes droit menant a la maison
Talk to me, tell me what you’ve seen
Is it greener
Or did I put you out to pasture
Je m’aligne ver toi
Cette ancienne cour
Cette tombe
Lignes droit menant a la maison
Brittany, please come back to me
Even cobbled stones can speak
And we’ll take turns falling asleep
Alphas counting sheep

I like to imagine you with green in your teeth
Big belly-laughing cause you hated how it tasted
Stitches in our sides with ornaments crafted with care
And every Christmas, we are grateful you are with us, cause
Breathing is easy, when you know someone loves you
You met my first girlfriend several times and it went fine
And at my recital, every note I sang I sang for you, 'cause
Breathing is easy, when you know someone loves you
Well the fake fish in the bathroom won't go belly-up
If you stop feeding them and showing up
But I'm not made of plastic, and when the darkness comes
I'll be there
To welcome the sun
I'm trying to make an ornament, but keep pricking my thumbs
I'm making a big one, so you can't leave this earth 'til it's done, 'cause
Breathing is easy, when you know someone loves you
Breathing is easy, when you know someone loves you
Breathing is easy, when you know someone loves you
No, I'm not made of plastic, and when the darkness comes
I'll be there
To welcome the sun

The Clearing
04:27
|
|||
There’s a clearing in the forest
Where the women used to pray
And they filled the air with wishes
For the coming days
And some of it came true
And some of it did not
Though many of them wondered
Had they prayed loud enough
Or maybe their gods just forgot
I’ve never said a prayer
I just dealt with what I got
But there is something that I envy
In those that do believe in gods
There are all these moments
Where the path’s not clear
If only there were someone
To point me toward the right one
And guide me through the fear
I keep thinking of those women
As I stand here in the glade
Waiting for the words to find me
To fill the air in my own way
All I have is music
This pulsing duple drum
I close my eyes and listen
For a melody
And wordless I start to hum

Please Stop the World

Please stop the world
You wanna get off
You need some time
Just long enough to
Lay down your head
Rest for a while
I’ll stop the world for you
